Software Engineering Intern

Remote · Internship

Own a real, scoped engineering project that helps agents test software changes and helps humans review the result.

About Strust

Strust is building the behavioral eval layer for software changes: deterministic feedback for coding agents and clear behavioral diffs for human reviewers.

We started with COBOL-to-Java migration because a running legacy system is an unusually strong reference. The larger mission is to help every team understand what agent-written software actually did before they trust the change.

The role

This internship is for an early-career builder who wants to learn by shipping. You will work on a concrete project in the product or eval stack, with close feedback and enough context to understand why the work matters.

The goal is not a toy intern project. You will leave a useful part of Strust better than you found it and learn how a small technical team turns open-ended problems into production software.

What you'll do

Own a scoped feature or infrastructure improvement from design through a reviewed release.
Write production code, tests, and documentation alongside the rest of the team.
Investigate how coding agents fail, then prototype ways to make their feedback more precise.
Use real traces and eval cases to improve product workflows for engineers and reviewers.
Participate in technical discussions, code review, and customer-informed product decisions.
Share what you learned and leave the next engineer a clear path through your work.

You might be a fit if

You have built and finished something outside a tightly specified assignment, whether through coursework, research, open source, work, or a personal project.
You are comfortable in at least one general-purpose programming language and eager to learn the rest of the stack.
You can break down a fuzzy problem, test your assumptions, and ask for help with useful context.
You care about the details that make software reliable and understandable.
You write clearly and are excited to work closely with a small team.

Nice to have

A project involving developer tools, testing, compilers, AI agents, or program analysis.
Experience with Python, TypeScript, Java, or systems programming.
An interest in how software behavior can be measured and explained.

What you get

A real project with visible product impact and a clear owner: you.
Close technical mentorship and direct feedback on your work.
Exposure to customers, product decisions, and the realities of building an early-stage company.
